Hurricane updates 2022

December 17 2022
Just a couple more things, the screen room is now open as well and is deemed safe. It has no doors, but cards games can resume safely.
Please watch your driving speeds and please please please stop at the stop signs.
We all signed these bylaws when we moved in , let’s keep it safe.
Harvey
Hello all!
It’s getting close to Christmas and many other religious holidays. Our weather has been a bit cooler this week but “good news”. The pool was opened today and although it is not finished completely, all of you bathing beauties will be able to enjoy the sun on our newly clean lounge chairs and deck. The washrooms are still being renovated but are shaping up nicely.
Looks like bocci and shuffle might be in full swing in time for the season. Only time will tell.
This all sounds great but please remember this hurricane damage and construction will be with us for a long time.
Please direct all questions and accolades to the office on a 3x5 card signed and dated. So we have records of them, not to board members as they walk down the street.
Thank you again for your patience and have a Very Happy Holiday.

December 9 2022
Hello fellow owners. Here it is December, 1 1/2 months post Ian. It’s a beautiful day and many of our snowbirds are making their way down to their winter home.
This is your newest update.
I must say Oaks IV does look much better then our neighbors in Oaks III. There has been a lot of work done and for the many volunteers, we thank you.
Almost all of the debris has been picked up out of the pond and some of the plants planted earlier this year are starting to peek up above the waterline.
Our construction team at Velocity has been working with our insurance companies but still no numbers for us yet.
We have applied for an sba loan to help with some of the damages but that also might take a while to process.
Our pump house has been fixed and testing will resume soon.
The tree between the pool and screen room is scheduled to come out this weekend and the screen room has been approved to be used as soon as the tree is down and cleanup is done.
The pool is probably going to be approved within the next month as well. These amenities will end up being closed when the screening is taking place.
A couple of our water leaks have been looked after but we are still working on the sink hole as everyone is referring it to in pp, qq, parking lot.
Shuffle board courts took a beating but people are playing on them anyway.
The bocce court is good except for benches that got smashed by trees falling. We are thinking about asking for donations to help buy some of the benches that were destroyed ( of course no one would be obligated)
Light poles are still down and fpl is going to come to fix them(we are on their list).
Fences are being worked on as we speak.

November 12 2022
Well another week has gone by, and another hurricane. We are very lucky that hurricane Nicole only brushed by us with some rain. No damage done that we know of.
The sinkhole is getting bigger but we now have a company that says they can fix it. Pool and other amenities are still not open. We will let you know if and when they are. Insurance seems to be a long drawn out process. Thank you for your continued patience while we wait for adjusters and construction reports.

November 3, 2023
Today’s update,
Our grounds continue to look better every day and our lawn has finally been cut.
The curfew in Charlotte county has been lifted.
Many traffic lights have been replaced.
We still have what we call our sink hole in the parking lot of PP, QQ and RR. We are struggling to get quotes of which are high and many parking spots at this point are unusable.
The trash men are starting to get back to normal hopefully soon our trash won’t be as overflowing.
There were a couple new birds in the pond the other day, a wood stork and a little blue heron.
A couple large trees have be removed from the pond and it’s starting to look better.
Unfortunately it will be a long drawn out road for the Oaks.
It will not be fast and it will be expensive.
If you have questions about your unit please call the person that you pay to check it. If you have other questions, call our CAM Nyree at Star Management or our office. The door in the office is locked a lot at this point for  safety reasons, please call before personally going over and asking Danielle questions. This will help as she is very busy right now. Thanks again Harvey Horton

Hurricane Ian Update 10-1-2022
Dear Oaks IV owners and residents, as you know this week Oaks IV had a direct hit by Hurricane Ian. Almost all of our condos were spared of heavy damage.  Unfortunately, this is not the case for our grounds.  Oaks III and IV grounds look like a war zone.
There has been no power and may continue to have no power for a long time.  The residents who stayed through the ordeal are fine to the best of my knowledge, but many have no phone or internet service.

The board and Star management have been working hard to find workers to help us but as you know most of Florida is in the situation.

We have 2 waterline breaks that we have been monitoring because the utility company says they have many people much worse off then us.

Many buildings have roof singles and soffit missing and we have a company who can tarp on buildings that need it.

There is still limited phone service, and 100 temporary cell phone towers are being installed through out Florida as we write this.
If you have not heard from anyone who checks your condo for you, please give them time.  Patience at a time like this is especially important.

For those who stayed and have not been able to watch TV, this is one of the biggest natural disaster Florida has ever had.  Please don't look at the grounds and think we are not doing anything.

Our pool is Un-swimmable, the bocce court and shuffleboard court's, may need to be rebuilt, so we won't be using them soon.

Insurance companies have been called, and now we wait.

At this time the board is recommending that you do not travel to Oaks IV.  The power grids are down and there is no time frame as to when they will be up and running.  Along with no power there is no internet and cell phone service is spotty at best.
There is also a curfew in effect for the county and many roadways are covered with debris. Many of the road areas in Oaks IV are covered with fallen trees and other debris.
It is recommended that you get in touch with the person that checks your condo and have them give you an assessment of any damage.

We will try to share as much information as possible.  Please check back as we will post information on this site.
